Bjorn Wiinblad’s new collection

To my surprise, last autumn the work of cheerful multi-artist Bjorn Wiinblad entered a new chapter; the presentation of an entire new collection. The recreation contains 47 new pieces, all with original work by Bjorn Wiinblad. Unfortunately the products are only available in Denmark, but from autumn 2015 they will also be available in Norway, Sweden and maybe Germany and Finland.

Fairy tale

For those of you who aren’t familiar with his work; Bjorn Wiinblad (1918-2006) was a multidisciplinary artist who created unique designs always with women as a recurring motif, often in a fairy tale like setting. Wiinblad’s woman will gaze at you with a melancholy, mysterious, gentle or curiously look. As the story goes, no matter how many employees he had, he always painted the eyes himself.

Popular in the 1960s and 70s

In terms of production and artistic expression, Bjorn Wiinblad’s popularity was at its height in the 1960s and 70s. ‘Any self-respecting Danish home would have a piece and therefor met Bjorn Wiinblad’s artistic mission to reach out into people’s living rooms and spread joy with his intricate and colourful designs. As time went by, his work went from cool to kitsch.’ However, today his works have become trendy flea market bargains and sought-after collectibles. This is one of the reasons for the relaunch and revitalization of Bjorn Wiinblad’s work.

Bjorn Wiinblad’s woman

In this new production woman are again in the centre of attention. You will find Rosalinde, Felicia, Cecilia, Amelia and Rosemunde on mugs, thermo cups, bowls, vases, flowerpots, cutting boards, candlesticks, cake tins and trays. Luckily the original colours survived (blue, black and dark red) and are complemented with lime green, purple and yellow. Quite daring if you ask me, but then again, I’m probably not part of the target audience. I’m the hopeless romantic vintage vulture that got stuck in the 70s and desperately visits flea markets for the missing peace. I will however place an order for every item in black and white to complement my collection. Or better yet, it’s a good excuse to drive up to Denmark again.

Thanks for stopping by!
